Neighbors,
I am thrilled to announce we have completed the planting phase at the roundabout!!! The evergreens finally arrived yesterday and we got them planted and watered this morning.
Weeding is an ongoing battle. The weather has been kind and the soil is easy to work. Let me know if you are up for weeding; even 30 minutes makes a difference. With the buddy system it’s fun and goes fast. I promise you’ll never weed alone (unless you want to.)
WATERING is the next challenge. We need about 10 neighbors to take responsibility for watering for one week each over the summer. That entails making sure the plants get 1” of water twice a week. You might get lucky and Mother Nature will do it for you, or you might need to set up the sprinkler and make sure it happens twice in a week.
Sharing this responsibility is terribly important for two reasons. First, adequate care in the first year will ensure the plants’ success. (Due to the hardy species we selected, we should not need to do it next year.) Second, the Landscape Team has made a heroic effort to plan and plant; now we need your help.
With just one week’s commitment, you can contribute to the beauty and restoration of our neighborhood. It can be scheduled around vacations and include the youngest family members. Please reply to this email or email me separately at moul…@swbell.net to get scheduled.
Thanks in advance for your support of this beautification project.
I want to point out that your dues to the WPIA made this project possible. I provided a cost estimate at the Annual Meeting on May 18, but actually overestimated. The total cost will be more like $2000. Also as noted at the meeting, approximately 80% of the WPIA budget goes to landscape maintenance. Your membership is important.
Finally, I am attaching the planting plan which shows which plants made the final selection and their season of interest, in case you want a short list of hardy perennials for your own garden.
