Update on planting, weeding and watering

Hey All, I am thrilled to announce we have completed the planting phase at the roundabout!!! The yews finally arrived yesterday and we got them planted and watered this morning. Look for an invitation to join a celebration of this soon!

Weeding Update

Below is a map of our progress on weeding to date. Plan A is to continue moving in a clockwise direction. It’s always more fun to do that with a buddy, so pipe up on the text thread when you’re going and see if can find a partner.  Even :30 to 1 hour with 2 people makes for great progress. Or, if you’re in a certain mood, you can take it out on the weeds. ;)

Today I will spread Preen on the section already weeded in hopes it will prevent these mutant (!) grasses from sprouting again. Plan B — Yoanna has identified an herbicide that may work, but it will require letting the grasses sprout so that they can be coated. In the meantime, let’s keep weeding and see if the Preen will suppress growth.

Watering Update

I can’t remember who I’ve told, but the Willers at 5206 have volunteered their water.  (On the SW corner.) The spigot is located in the front on the far-right side of the house.  There is a nozzle and a sprinkler.

Step 1: Set up cones on the SW side of the circle to keep cars from running over the hose when it’s filled.

Step 2: You’ll need to drag most but not all of the gray vinyl hose across the Willers’ front lawn, then the lightweight hose will reach wherever needed.

Step 3: I the estimate the sprinkler will need to run :90 minutes to 2 hours to provide 1” of water to the area. I’ve installed a new water gauge so we can see what it really takes.

Set up and take down — probably 10 minutes each.

THANKS FOR ALL YOU’VE DONE AND ARE DOING!
